5 week short course

Thursday evenings, 6.30 - 8pm

13th, 20th, 27th June, 4th & 11th July

£49 for five week course

Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a paint brush in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.

This half term we will solely focus on painting methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a range of wet media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your knowledge of painting techniques and you will develop your understanding of how to apply watercolours, gouache, inks, acrylics and mixed-media to paper and board.

All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!

Session one / 13th June: Watercolour wildlife

During this class you will be introduced to a range of watercolour methods, producing a mini-menu of techniques to take home. You will also have the opportunity to put these ideas into practice and you will create a small study of either a bird, insect or amphibian on watercolour paper.

Session two / 20th June: Gouache landscapes

During this lesson you will be introduced to a range of gouache paint applications. You will have the opportunity to make a number of little sample pieces where you will be able to practice using gouache, before moving on to creating a mini landscape painting.

Session three / 27th June: Inky still life

This class is all about celebrating colour! You will be given a range of vibrant drawing inks and you will be shown how to effectively apply these with a brush and water to paper. We will use an eccentric still life as our starting point, and by the end of the session you will have produced an eye-catching artwork full of pattern and colour.

Session four / 4th July: Acrylic landscapes

This class will focus on acrylic paint application using brushes and all manner of different art tools. You will create a small menu of techniques that you can later refer to, and we will build up to the creation of a larger landscape study.

Session five / 11th July: Acrylic paints and mixed media

During this class you can either choose to continue with your acrylic painting from the previous session, or you can take part in an additional mixed-media project that will touch on all the other painting products that we have used throughout the Art Basics Painting course.
