ART BASICS
5 week short course
Thursday evenings, 6.30 - 8pm
23rd, 30th April, 7th, 14th & 21st May
£12 for a single lesson 
 
Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.
 
This half term we will explore a range of painting, printing and drawing methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a variety of wet and dry media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your observational drawing skills, you will gain a better understanding of how to use different paints and mixed-media processes, and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities.
 
All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
 
Session One: 23rd April / Shading pencil drawings of shells
Take time to develop your observational drawing skills and create a series of shading pencil studies of shells, pebbles and seaweed. This is an opportunity to learn about line, tone and mark making, and the class will be a relaxing start to the Art Basics short course. 
 
Session Two: 30th April / Coil pots with clay
Learn a simple coil pot technique and make a small vessel using air drying clay. A fun, hands-on project that's accessible to all. 
 
Session 7th May / Acrylic paintings of harbour scenes
Learn how to successfully apply acrylic paint to paper and board, using a variety of techniques and tools. You will consider how to create the illusion of water and you will produce a lovely seaside scene. 
 
Session Four: 14th May / Portraits with colouring pencils
During this class you will have the opportunity to learn about the proportions of the face through step by step instructions. You will also have the chance to practice using colouring pencils and think about skin tones. 
 
Session Five: 21st May / Ice cream sundaes in watercolours
Celebrate the warmer weather and make a range of paintings of ice creams in watercolours! During this class you will sketch out a still life composition based on desserts and you will learn a range of watercolour techniques.
