ART BASICS

5 week short course

Thursday evenings, 6.30 - 8pm

12th, 19th, 26th November, 3rd & 10th December

£12 for a single lesson 

Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.

This half term we will explore a range of painting and drawing methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a variety of wet and dry media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your observational drawing skills, you will gain a better understanding of how to use different paints and mixed-media processes, and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities.

All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!

Session One: 12th November - Sketchbook folding

Start the term by hand folding a beautiful hard cover sketchbook that you can use in the future to fill with lots of drawings, notes and ideas! During this class you will use watercolour and wax resist techniques to decorate the front and back covers as well as preparing the blank pages.

Session Two: 19th November - Festive forms with shading pencils

Develop your understanding of line, tone and mark making during this observational drawing class. You will be taught about the different grades of pencils and will produce a careful drawing of a seasonal object.

Session three: 26th November - Printing with polystyrene - winter mountains

Learn how to make simple and effective prints using a sheet of polystyrene. Create a series of mini prints depicting winter scenes, perfect for using on greetings cards.

Session Four: 3rd December - Chalk and charcoal still life

Practice your observational drawing skills and create a large artwork depicting a range of eye-catching objects. You will use chalk and charcoal to create folds in fabric, highlights on bottles and textures on natural forms.

Session Five: 10th December - Seasonal animals with metallic watercolours and biros

For our final session of the year, expect a bit of sparkle and some cute imagery! Create clear lines and marks using black biro pens and then use metallic watercolours to finish off your drawing of a characterful creature.
