4th, 11th, 18th, 25th June, 2nd July
£49 for five week block
Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.
This half term we will explore a range of painting and drawing methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a variety of wet and dry media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your observational drawing skills, you will gain a better understanding of how to use different paints and mixed-media processes, and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities.
All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
Session One: 4th June / Summer landscapes in gouache
Join us for a lovely and calm painting session where you will have the opportunity to unwind and create a cheerful landscape image that celebrates the summer season. You will explore how best to apply gouache and will learn simple techniques that you can use again in the future.
Session Two: 11th June / House plants in chalk and charcoal
Develop your observational drawing skills and improve your understanding of tonal variation. You will learn how to compose a balanced image and apply charcoal and white chalk onto cartridge paper. By the end of this class you will have a beautiful drawing to take home.
Session 18th June / Night at the museum - interesting artefacts in coloured pencils
Explore a range of unusual and interesting 3D objects and strengthen your observational drawing skills. During this class you will learn how to sketch out a still life image, before developing your colour blending, tonal work and mark-making skills using colouring pencils.
Session Four: 25th June / Sea life using drawing inks and wax resist techniques
During this class you will have the opportunity to celebrate colour using expressive inks and oil pastels. Our theme will be marine life and you will create an image depicting tropical fish, seashells, sea urchins, starfish, coral and jellyfish.
Session Five: 2nd July / disco balls in acrylic paints
To celebrate our final Art Basics session before the summer break, we will be painting colourful disco balls! Learn how to draw out a series of guidelines onto a circular canvas before practising your colour mixing skills to create a mirror effect.
