ART BASICS
5 week short course

Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.
 
This half term we will explore a range of painting and drawing methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a variety of wet and dry media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your observational drawing skills, you will gain a better understanding of how to use watercolours, acrylic paints and mixed-media processes, and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities.
 
All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
 
Session One: 6th November - Facial features in shading pencils
Develop your understanding of the human face and practise drawing facial features using shading pencils. By the end of the class you will have a set of sketches that demonstrate your understanding of line and tone. 
 
Session Two: 13th November - Polystyrene printing with collage, inspired by natural forms
Join us for a fun and engaging art session where you will experiment with colourful collage and print simple  and effective images of seasonal natural forms. You are invited to produce a set of greetings cards, or work on a larger sheet of paper to produce one final piece. 
 
Session Three: 20th November - Winter scenes and landmarks in gouache
Choose a wintery landscape scene and transform it into your own distinctive painting using bold layers of gouache. By the end of the lesson you will have developed your understanding of applying gouache to paper and you will have considered different compositional ideas. 
 
Session Four: Festive forms in embossing foil
During this class you will produce a series of eye-catching line drawings and designs, based around a festive theme. You will then choose your favourite designs and transfer them onto embossing foil using different tools. You will take home a set of gorgeous festive decorations made from thin sheets of coloured metal. 
 
Session Five: Festive still life with metallic oil pastels
Embrace the festive cheer in the studio and complete the year using shiny metallic oil pastels on black card. You will have the opportunity to improve your observational drawing skills and you will discover how to blend pastels to achieve stunning results.
